No, the Elephanta Caves are closed on Mondays. The ferry services from Gateway of India also do not operate for tourism purposes on this day.

There is a fair amount of walking. After the ferry, there is a long pier (toy train available) and then a climb of about 120 steps. For those who cannot climb, palanquins (dolis) are available for a fee.

The island is home to many wild monkeys who are very aggressive about food. It is strictly advised not to carry open food packets or plastic bags. Use closed backpacks and eat only at designated stalls.
