The Barapani Legacy
Umiam Lake was formed in the 1960s by damming the Umiam River for a hydroelectric project. Today, it serves as a primary source of fish and water for the city.
There are several 'floating islands' in the lake, and the nearby Ri Kynjai resort offers traditional Khasi-style stays overlooking the water.

Located 15 km before Shillong on the Guwahati-Shillong highway. Every taxi or bus passing through stops here.
