Arthur's Seatmahabaleshwar
The Queen of All Points

Overview
Sitting at 1,470 meters, this is the most popular viewpoint in Mahabaleshwar, offering a dramatic view of the Savitri River and the Brahma-Arayan valley.
What To Expect?
A series of six viewpoints (including Tiger Hill and Hunter Point). The main seat is a huge rock perched over a deep abyss. It is famous for its 'gravity-defying' phenomenon where light objects like bottle caps, when thrown into the valley, float back up due to strong air suction. The view of the layers of Sahyadri ranges is breathtaking.
Tips
- There is a fair amount of walking involved between the different points; wear comfortable shoes.
- Try the 'Chana Garam' and fresh corn sold by local vendors along the path.
- Visit before 4 PM to avoid the heavy evening mist that can block the view.
Exploring Arthur's Seat
The Tragic Name
The point is named after Sir Arthur Malet, who used to sit here and stare at the Savitri river, where he tragically lost his wife and children in a ferry accident.
The rock formations here are geologically unique, showing the distinct volcanic layers of the Deccan Trap.
