Overview
A peaceful archaeological site where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment, located just 10 km from the bustle of Varanasi.
What To Expect?
A serene park housing the massive Dhamekh Stupa and ruins of ancient monasteries. You'll see the Ashoka Pillar (whose lion capital is India's national emblem). The Sarnath Museum contains some of the finest Buddhist sculptures in the world. It’s a quiet contrast to the chaotic energy of Kashi.

Lord Buddha taught the 'Four Noble Truths' here to his five disciples. Sarnath remains one of the four most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.
The Tibetan Temple and the Japanese Temple nearby offer beautiful examples of modern Buddhist architecture and colorful murals.

About 10 km from Varanasi Junction. Taxis or auto-rickshaws take about 30-40 minutes.
