Dhanushkodi Ghost Townrameshwaram
The Edge of India

Overview
A hauntingly beautiful town abandoned after the 1964 cyclone, situated at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.
What To Expect?
A surreal landscape of ruins—roofless churches, a weathered post office, and a railway station reclaimed by sand. You can drive all the way to 'Arichal Munai', the tip of the land from where Sri Lanka is just 24 km away. The meeting point of the calm blue waters (Mahodadhi) and the roaring waves (Ratnakar) is a visual delight.
Tips
- There is very little shade; carry an umbrella and plenty of water.
- Try the freshly caught fried fish at the small local shacks run by the fishing community.

The Lost Land
Dhanushkodi (meaning 'End of the Bow') was a flourishing port until a massive cyclone washed it away in a single night in 1964. It was subsequently declared a 'Ghost Town' by the government.
It is believed that Lord Rama marked the spot with his bow to build the bridge (Ram Setu) to Lanka.
