Overview
A massive Mughal fort built by Emperor Akbar in 1583, located at the edge of the Sangam.
What To Expect?
Most of the fort is under the control of the Indian Army and restricted. However, visitors are allowed to visit the 'Patalpuri Temple' (underground temple) and catch a glimpse of the 'Akshaya Vat' (Immortal Tree). The Ashoka Pillar (232 BC) is also located inside but viewing depends on security permissions.

The Immortal Tree
The Akshaya Vat is a sacred banyan tree believed to survive all destructions of the world. It was recently opened to the public for regular darshan after decades.
The fort's massive walls and zenana (women's quarters) are visible from boat rides in the Sangam.

Located near the Sangam. You can walk to the gate from the Kila Ghat area.
