The Architecture of Faith
The temple is built on a 67-ft square of marble and is a blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles. The upper half was covered with gold foil by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1830.
Unlike many shrines, the Golden Temple has four entrances, symbolizing that people from all four directions and all walks of life are welcome.
