A medieval stone tower built by the Genoese, providing the highest panoramic views over the Golden Horn and the historic peninsula.
What To Expect?
An elevator ride followed by a few stairs to the outdoor observation deck. You get a 360-degree view of Istanbul. You can see the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, and the sprawling Asian side across the water. The surrounding Galata neighborhood is full of trendy cafes, art galleries, and musicians.

- The queue for the tower can be massive; try to buy your Museum Pass in advance.

Exploring Galata Tower
Hezarfen’s Flight
According to legend, Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi flew across the Bosphorus to the Asian side using artificial wings from the top of this tower in the 17th century.
The tower was originally built as a lighthouse but has served as a jail, an observatory, and a fire tower.
