A Hindu Balinese water temple near Ubud where pilgrims and travelers participate in a thousand-year-old ritual bath.
What To Expect?
A deeply meditative atmosphere. You can join the locals in the 'Melukat' purification ritual, moving through 13 different fountains in a stone pool. The water is cold, clear, and believed to wash away negative spirits. The outer courtyards are filled with old-growth banyan trees and the sound of gamelan music.

Exploring Tirta Empul Holy Water Temple
The Legend of the Spring
The temple was founded in 962 AD and is dedicated to Vishnu. Legend says the spring was created by the God Indra to heal his forces after a battle.
Participants must wear a traditional green sarong with a red sash (available for rent) to enter the holy water.
