Located 16 kms from Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest one in Kerala and is home to dry deciduous, moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests.
What To Expect?
A thrilling jeep safari through dense forests where you can spot wild elephants, gaurs, spotted deer, and diverse bird species. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a tiger or a leopard. The sanctuary offers a serene immersion into the raw wilderness of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, was established in 1973. It is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and forms an essential part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, bordering Bandipur National Park in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu.
The sanctuary is a rich repository of biodiversity, featuring dry deciduous, moist deciduous, and semi-evergreen forests. It is world-renowned for its active role in 'Project Elephant,' protecting the vast herds of Asiatic elephants that migrate through these corridors. Beyond elephants, the sanctuary is home to tigers, panthers, monkeys, and over 200 species of birds.
