Located at an altitude of 2,000 meters, Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad. A natural heart-shaped lake that never dries up is the main highlight here.
What To Expect?
A moderate to difficult 4.5 km uphill trek through lush tea plantations and dense forests. The primary highlight is the 'Hridayasaras' or the heart-shaped lake, believed to never dry up. From the top, enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Wayanad district and the Nilgiri hills in the distance.
Tips
- Prior permission from the Forest Office in Meppadi is mandatory for the trek.
- A local forest guide is provided by the department and is included in the group trekking fee.
- Wear sturdy trekking boots with a good grip, as the trail can be slippery during the rainy season.
- Be careful of leeches in the forest path; apply salt or tobacco as a preventive measure.
- Carry sufficient water in reusable bottles, as single-use plastic is confiscated at the entrance.
- Arrive as early as 7:00 AM because there is a limit on the number of trekkers allowed per day.

Chembra Peak is part of the Wayanad hill range in the Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri hills in Tamil Nadu. Standing at 2,100 meters, it is a favorite among adventure seekers and nature lovers. The peak is managed by the South Wayanad Forest Development Agency.
The trek starts from the forest office near Meppadi. Along the way, trekkers pass through sprawling tea estates before the incline steepens into the misty grasslands. The heart-shaped lake, located halfway to the summit, is a unique biological wonder and provides a tranquil spot for rest and photography.
