Exploring Udaipur City Palace
More About Udaipur City Palace
Construction of the palace began in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II. It was built atop a hill providing a panoramic view of the surroundings, which made it easy to defend against enemies. The complex actually consists of 11 magnificent palaces built by different rulers of the Mewar dynasty.
The 'Zenana Mahal' (Queens' quarters) is particularly beautiful, now converted into a museum displaying royal artifacts. The crystal gallery, which requires a separate ticket, houses one of the world's largest collections of crystal items, ordered by Maharana Sajjan Singh from England in 1877.
