More About Gaiety Theatre
Opened on 30th May 1887, the Gaiety Theatre was designed by the famous architect Henry Irwin. It was part of a larger Town Hall complex and remains one of the few functional Victorian-style theatres in the world. The interior is particularly famous for its superb acoustics and plush green leather seating.
The building underwent a massive restoration project between 2004 and 2009 to restore its original grandeur. Today, it serves as the cultural hub of Shimla, featuring an art gallery attached to the Lalit Kala Academy, a museum, and an amphitheatre for open-air performances.
