Developed in an area of 180 sq. kms, the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve is a sanctuary for some of the world's most unique high-altitude species. Located at a distance of about 48 km from Srinagar, it is perched at an altitude ranging from 2,400 to 4,300 metres above sea level.
The reserve is a paradise for nature lovers and ornithologists. The dominant vegetation includes Silver Fir, Birch, and Pine. Apart from the famous Musk Deer, the park is home to the Hangul, Leopards, and various species of jungle cats. It serves as a vital corridor for Himalayan wildlife migration.
