Overview
A sacred high-altitude lake at 12,400 feet, known for its changing colors and the snow-clad mountains that surround it.
What To Expect?
A dramatic drive through hairpin bends to reach the oval-shaped lake. In winter, the lake freezes completely. You can take a decorated Yak ride along the banks and enjoy hot Maggi and tea at the local stalls nearby.

- Oxygen levels are low; walk slowly and keep yourself hydrated.
- Carry warm woolens even in summer as it gets very windy.
- Foreign nationals are only allowed up to Tsomgo Lake and not Nathula Pass.

The Sacred Waters
The lake is considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. Legend says that in ancient times, lamas used to study the color of the lake's water to predict the future of the state.
To visit, you must obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) which your travel agent or hotel can arrange with a copy of your ID and photos.
How to reach Tsomgo Lake (Changu)
Located 40 km from Gangtok. Accessible only via registered Sikkim taxis (SUV highly recommended).
