The largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world, famous for its massive gold-plated Buddha statues.
What To Expect?
Breathtaking Tibetan architecture with ornate paintings and gold detailing. Inside the prayer hall, three 40-foot tall statues (Buddha Shakyamuni, Padmasambhava, and Amitayus) tower over visitors. The complex is home to over 5,000 monks.

- Remove shoes before entering the prayer hall.
- The afternoon prayer sessions (around 1:00 PM) are a soul-stirring experience with traditional horns and drums.

The Bylakuppe Settlement
The monastery is located in Bylakuppe, the second-largest Tibetan settlement in India after Dharamshala. It was established in 1963 by Pema Norbu Rinpoche.
The shopping area outside the temple is excellent for buying Tibetan handicrafts, prayer flags, and authentic momos.

Located 35 km from Madikeri town (about a 1-hour drive). Usually visited while entering or leaving Coorg from the Bangalore/Mysore side.
