More About Sheshnag Lake

Sheshnag Lake is an alpine high-altitude lake located at an elevation of 3,590 metres in the Anantnag district. It is famous for its unique natural beauty and its name, which derives from the Sheshnag mountain that resembles the hood of the mythical serpent Sheshnag.

According to Hindu mythology, the lake was dug by Sheshnag himself to keep intruders away from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati's journey to Amarnath. The lake is home to brown trout and is fed by melting snow and glaciers, making the water exceptionally cold and clear throughout the year.
