Built over 200 years ago, Chowmahalla Palace once used to be the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled their state. The name 'Chowmahalla' means 'Four Palaces' (Chow meaning four and Mahala meaning palace).
The palace architecture is a unique synthesis of many styles and influences. The complex is famous for its elegant craftsmanship, from the grand clock tower at the main gate to the Council Hall which houses a rare collection of manuscripts and coins. It remains a property of the royal family and was meticulously restored and opened to the public in 2005.
