Pushkar Lake is a semi-circular body of water mentioned in ancient scriptures like the Padmanabha Purana. It is considered one of the five most sacred 'Sarovars' (lakes) for Hindus. Legend states that the lake appeared when Brahma killed the demon Vajranabha with a lotus, and the petals fell in three spots, one being the main lake.
The most famous ghat is the Varaha Ghat, and the Gaughat is significant as the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed here. Every evening, the 'Sarovar Aarti' is performed at Varaha Ghat, creating a spiritual energy that is the highlight for most travelers.
