Exploring Mysore Palace
More About Mysore Palace
The current palace was commissioned in 1897 after the original wooden palace was destroyed in a fire. Designed by British architect Henry Irwin, it was completed in 1912. It serves as the venue for the world-famous Mysore Dasara festival.
The palace is famous for its 'Doll's Pavilion' (Gombe Thotti), which houses a collection of 19th-century dolls and a ceremonial wooden elephant carriage (Howdah) decorated with 80kg of gold.
