Isa Khan’s Tombhumayuns-tomb
The Octagonal Jewel

Overview
Located within the same complex, this tomb pre-dates Humayun's by 20 years and is a beautiful example of Sur dynasty architecture.
What To Expect?
A striking octagonal tomb built entirely of quartzite. You will see a sunken garden surrounding the tomb, vibrant blue tile-work remaining on the roof, and a small, elegant mosque attached to the enclosure. It offers a more intimate and rugged look at pre-Mughal Islamic styles.
Tips
- Look for the remains of the glazed blue tiles on the tomb's outer dome—they give a hint of how colorful it was originally.
- Take photos from the gateway to capture the symmetry of the octagonal tomb centered in its garden.
- The area is usually quieter than the main mausoleum, perfect for a peaceful walk.
Exploring Isa Khan’s Tomb
More About Isa Khan's Tomb
Isa Khan Niazi was an Afghan noble in the court of Sher Shah Suri and Islam Shah Suri. His tomb was built in 1547-48, making it slightly older than the main Humayun's Tomb.
The complex is notable for its 'sunken garden' which was a common feature of Lodi and Suri architecture. The detailed stone work and the presence of a mosque within the same enclosure make it a complete architectural unit that is often missed by tourists who only focus on the main tomb.
How to reach Isa Khan’s Tomb
It is located immediately to the right after entering the main Humayun's Tomb complex gates.
