A walk through pure royal opulence. Witness the world's largest pair of chandeliers in the Durbar Hall and a unique silver model train that served drinks and cigars on a track laid on the dining table. The palace museum (Jiwajirao Scindia Museum) houses royal clothing, furniture, and personal artifacts of the Scindia family.

More About Jai Vilas Palace
Built in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the Jai Vilas Palace was designed by Sir Michael Filose. The Durbar Hall is its crown jewel, featuring two massive chandeliers weighing 3.5 tonnes each. Before hanging them, 10 elephants were reportedly hoisted onto the roof to test if it could bear the weight.
The museum section is incredibly well-preserved, showcasing a collection of vintage cars, royal palanquins, and a unique collection of items from the Scindia family’s European tours. It remains the residence of the descendants of the royal family while a large portion is open to the public.
How to reach Jai Vilas Palace
Located in the Lashkar area of Gwalior. It is about 4 km from Gwalior Junction. Local auto-rickshaws and taxis are the easiest way to reach the palace gates.
