Exploring Marina Beach
More About Marina Beach
The Marina Beach is a natural urban beach in Chennai, along the Bay of Bengal. It was renovated by Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff, the Governor of Madras in the 1880s, who was captivated by its beauty. Today, it stands as the city's most enduring landmark.
The promenade is dotted with memorials of famous Tamil leaders and the historic Senate House of the University of Madras. On weekend evenings, the beach turns into a massive fair with horse rides, kite flying, and hundreds of local food stalls.
