Kala Bhavana was established in 1919 and became the cradle of modern Indian art. The 'Black House' (Kalo Bari) is a mud-walled dormitory featuring relief work inspired by the Ajanta Caves.
Ramkinkar Baij, one of India's greatest sculptors, left his mark here with massive, expressionist works made from simple local materials like sand and cement.
