What To Expect?
Grand entrances with carved pillars and massive wooden beams that have survived for over 2,000 years. The Karla Caves house a giant Buddhist stupa and a temple dedicated to Goddess Ekvira. The Bhaja caves are famous for their unique architecture and the 'Sun temple' carving.

Architectural Grandeur
The 'Grand Chaitya' at Karla is the largest of its kind in India. It features a spectacular sun window that lights up the stupa at specific times of the day.
Bhaja Caves are quieter and feature several stupas in an open cemetery-like arrangement, dedicated to the monks who lived there.

Karla Caves are 11 km from Lonavala. You have to climb about 200-300 steps. Bhaja Caves are another 5 km away from Karla.
