Located about 30 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Neyyar Dam is a popular picnic spot established in 1958. It is built across the Neyyar River and serves as the gateway to the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, which covers over 128 square kilometers of lush Western Ghats terrain.
The dam area is particularly famous for its rare medicinal herbs and plants that are cultivated in the surrounding forests. One of the unique attractions here is the Lion Safari Park, where visitors are taken into a fenced forest area in specialized buses to spot Asiatic lions in their natural habitat.
