More About Kolaba Fort

Kolaba Fort, also known as Alibaug Fort, is an old military fortification in India. Situated in the sea 1–2 km from the shores of Alibaug, it was one of the chief naval stations during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort was later completed by Sambhaji Maharaj in 1681.

One of the most remarkable features of this sea fort is the presence of freshwater wells inside its premises, despite being surrounded by the salty Arabian Sea. The fort has two main entrances—one facing the sea and the other towards Alibaug—and houses several temples, most notably the Ganesha temple built in 1759.
