Constructed to honour the sacrifices made by brave Indian soldiers, this iconic museum is located on the Leh-Kargil Road and gives you an insight into the military history of Ladakh.
What To Expect?
A moving experience across two floors of exhibits. On the ground floor, learn about the culture and history of Ladakh. The upper floor houses the OP Vijay Gallery, showcasing weapons and documents from the Kargil War. You can watch a heart-wrenching documentary on 'Operation Vijay' and witness the Beating the Retreat ceremony in the evening.
Tips
- Carry a valid Government ID as security staff check ID at the gate before entry.
- Plan your visit around 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM to catch the comfort of the evening and the Beating the Retreat parade at 7:00 PM.
- Visit the souvenir shop near the exit for authentic army caps, mugs, and pashmina shawls.
- Ensure you are fully acclimatized to the high altitude of Leh before visiting.
- Photography inside requires an additional fee of ₹50.

It is maintained by the Indian Army and serves as a reminder of the valor displayed during various conflicts, including the 1999 Kargil War.
The museum consists of several galleries, including the 'Lest We Forget' wall which displays photographs of soldiers who attained martyrdom. It also features a section dedicated to the high-altitude life of soldiers at the Siachen Glacier, showing their specialized clothing, food, and training equipment.
