Considered as the epitome of peace, this white-domed magnificent Stupa was built in 1991 as a part of the peace pagoda mission and houses ancient relics of the Buddhist culture.

A magnificent white-domed structure perched on a hilltop in Chanspa. You can expect breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Leh town and the surrounding snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The Stupa is beautifully illuminated at night and offers a serene environment perfect for meditation and watching the sunset.

- Visit during the golden hour (sunset) to capture the best photographs of Leh town and the Stupa.
- Stay back until after dark to see the Stupa illuminated with beautiful multi-colored lights.
- Dress in layers, as the hilltop can get quite windy and cold even if the weather in town is warm.
- If taking the stairs, ensure you are well-acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness from the physical exertion.
- The Stupa is a religious site; please remove your shoes before stepping onto the white platform of the second level.

Considered as the epitome of peace, this white-domed magnificent Stupa was built in 1991 as a part of the peace pagoda mission and houses ancient relics of the Buddhist culture. It was built by Japanese Buddhists and local Ladakhi people to promote world peace and prosperity.
The Stupa features two levels. The first level has a central relief of Dharmachakra with deer on each side, and the second level features reliefs depicting the 'birth' of Buddha, the death of Buddha (mahanirvana), and Buddha 'defeating the devils' while meditating.

How to reach Shanti Stupa
Located in the Chanspa area of Leh. It is accessible by a steep flight of 500 stairs from the base or via a 15-minute winding road drive by taxi or private vehicle.
