A picturesque town located in the Baramulla district, Tangmarg is situated at an altitude of approximately 2,100 metres. It is widely known as the 'Gateway to Gulmarg' because all travelers coming from Srinagar must pass through this town to ascend to the higher meadows.
The town is famous for its local handicrafts, particularly its fine woodwork and woollens. It also houses the historic Ziarat of Baba Reshi, a highly revered shrine located a few kilometres away. During the winters, Tangmarg becomes a hive of activity as it is the point where standard taxis often stop and travelers switch to 4x4 vehicles equipped with snow chains for the final leg of the journey.
